Many times I try to recollect my school memories, and one thing I find amusing is that I was never interested in what ever was being taught in the class (except few..). Never figured out the reason, but one thing I realize that its deadly difficult to keep the audience attentive even for 10-15 minutes. Teachers were doing it for the entire year, over and over every year.
I still certainly dont have a solution to it, as I am not yet a teacher neither a good public speaker, however here are some points I will be working on
- You must generate interest and curiosity
- Systematically open some Gaps in their knowledge, and then fill those gaps over the time. (borrowed from Made to Stick – by Heath Brothers)
- Ideas wrapped in stories fly high, and have long life expectancy
Are we training our teachers enough to be effective? To tell stories?
